Is this the same event I saw in October 2023?
No, Poppy Fields is a completely different show created by Luxmuralis. It will reflect on the sacrifices of the First and Second World Wars, while offering a message of peace and hope for the future.
When is the event open?
Poppy Fields runs after dark from Friday 17 October to Saturday 25 October at the following times:
6.15pm – 9.30pm
Last entry: 8.45pm
Entry to the event is by 15 minute time slots. We ask that you book a timed entry slot in advance, but you are welcome to stay and enjoy the installation for as long as you like!
Please note: the installation is not available to view during the Cathedral’s normal opening hours.
How do I book?

Where do I enter the Cathedral for the event?
Entrance to Poppy Fields will be through the West End of the Cathedral. A member of our team will be at the main entrance to guide you, and clear signage will be displayed throughout the Cathedral grounds.
A dedicated accessible entrance is also available for visitors with specific access needs. Please speak to a member of staff on arrival.
What do I need to bring with me?
After booking, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your ticket(s). Please check your spam or junk folder if it doesn’t appear in your inbox.
Bring your ticket(s) with you either printed or displayed on your smartphone or tablet — you'll need to show them to our team when you arrive.
If you have purchased a ticket with a military/veteran discount, please bring proof of eligibility, along with your ticket.
If you have booked a carer ticket via Reception, please bring proof of eligibility, along with your ticket.
Will there be queues?
While we’ll do our best to welcome everyone promptly, there may be queues at busy times. We recommend dressing for the weather.
On certain evenings when we anticipate a high number of visitors, we will have activities to keep you (and your little ones) entertained in the queue!
Can I buy tickets on the night?
Subject to availability, tickets will be available to purchase on the night.
Do children 5 and under need a ticket?
No ticket is required for children under 5, just bring them along. Children aged between 6-16 will require a child ticket.
Is the event accessible?
A dedicated accessible entrance is also available for visitors with specific access needs. Please speak to a member of staff on arrival.
The main Poppy Fields show is level access throughout, but please be aware that:
Premium Experience tickets are not suitable for those requiring step-free access as there is no level access to these spaces.
The Cathedral floor is uneven in places.
The space will be dark – please take extra care.
The event is an immersive, walking experience throughout the interior of the Cathedral. However limited seating will be available. If you have specific access needs, please speak to a member of our team on arrival.
Are dogs allowed to the event?
In line with our Dogs Policy, only registered guide dogs are allowed for this event.
Will there be loud sounds or flashing lights?
Yes. The installation features flashing lights and loud music throughout.
Limited ear defenders will be available to loan. Please speak to a member of staff on arrival.
Can I take photos?
Yes. Non-flash photography is welcome for personal use.
If you’re taking images to share on social media don’t forget to tag us on Facebook, Instagram or BlueSky.
Please note: commercial photography is not permitted.
Can I change or cancel my booking?
We appreciate plans and circumstances can change. To update the date or time of your visit, please click the ‘View / Edit Booking’ link in your confirmation email to modify your booking. Any changes must be made a minimum of 24 hours prior to the time of your booking. If you are no longer able to attend, please email reception@gloucestercathedral.org.uk to request cancellation. Please note, cancellation requests must be received a minimum of 48 hours prior to the time of your booking to be eligible for a refund.
