We're looking for a talented, budding organist to join our Music Department
Full time (1 year contract)
Salary £6,000 per annum, accommodation provided
We are excited to be able to announce our next Organ Scholarship for 2023-2024 for talented organists to apply for.
Music has been at the heart of Gloucester Cathedral’s worship for almost 1,000 years and we offer the very best we can to the glory of God. Music has the ability to transform and connect people through prayer and praise and we strive to promote a greater appreciation of its value by bringing people together to share in stimulating musical experiences. Music is integral to our daily worship with Choral Evensong being sung by either the Cathedral Choir or the Cathedral Youth Choir every day during school term time, and occasionally by visiting choirs during school holidays.
The Organ Scholar can expect to be fully immersed within all of the activities of our talented Music Department, this includes not only playing the organ but working with our Choirs and assisting with the Music department administration.
The Organ Scholar will enjoy playing for Evensong every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and will get the opportunity to play for many of the special services which take place in the Cathedral each year.
In addition, they will play the organ or direct the choir as necessary, with full involvement within the Cathedral’s Choirs. The Organ Scholar will develop and train the Boy and Girl Choristers, Youth Choir and Junior Choir and be the Director of the Cathedral Middle Choir (ages 11-14).
The Organ Scholar will be provided with furnished accommodation within the Cathedral grounds and a salary of £6,000 per annum.
